Please find following the notes from the West End Business Association’s monthly meeting.
Present: Jonathan Blakeslee, White Heron Tea, Campbll Lousoaway, STREET, Monique Shevlin, Signature Title, Katherine Perron, Gateway Tai Chi/Weekender House, Sara Curry, Bikram Yoga, Jeanne Russell, Portsmouth Center for Yoga and the Arts, Briggs Buzzell and Valerie Rochon, Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce.
Holiday Passport: Several members were not present for the review of the Holiday Passport. Overall, we had a great turnout considering how quickly we pulled the event together. One recommendation was to do the event in the summer so people were walking around in the warm weather. We overshot the event trying to make it an events promotion and a a scavenger hunt. Next year, we plan to focus solely on exploring the West End.
We also failed in getting the word out. face-to-face interactions in participating businesses would have vastly expanded participation, but many businesses did not understand how the event worked or that they were responsible to help get the word out, too, in this grassroots project. Next year, we will have an informational meeting in October and all businesses who want to participate must attend.
West End Business Card: Valerie had a great recommendation to have some kind of card with a QR code to post in each of our businesses. “Do you want to know what’s happening in the West End? Like us on FB.” Who in our group has the capability to design and create this? This would be a simple way to market this end of town year-round and make the most of our active social media site.
Social Media: Remember that Devon Boyd is here to help promote what’s happening on the West End on our active social media site. Email Devon
if you have an event, article in the paper or something cool to share. Help us help you share your message and all that the West End has to offer.
Share with your friends! Have you taken the time to invite all of your friends to like Portsmouth West End on Facebook? It’s a simple way to increase the impact of your business on social media. You share our page, we promote your business. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TODAY!
Chamber of Commerce: Many thanks to Valerie and Briggs for joining our meeting this month and offering lots of great suggestions. Many West End businesses are members of the Chamber
. Many are not. The Chamber knows the West End is the “cool kids” and wants to support the spirit of the the #WE in any way they can and to promote balanced growth between downtown and the #WestSide.
Wayfinding: Campbell is going to reach out to Juliette Walker
of the Wayfinding Project to clarify how the West End is being delineated and branded in the new Wayfinding Project.
