January 14th, 2020 Islington Street Update – Plans are in the works for next summer’s construction on the Islington Street corridor from Aldrich toward the Bypass. Traffic will remain two-way for most of the project from Bartlett to Plaza 800, but we will return to a one-way traffic pattern from Alrich to the Bypass. The City is soliciting West End opinions on whether it would be more advantageous to have the one-way flow outbound or inbound. ??We will be sending out a follow up poll. Please be sure to share your opinion and ideas! Sign up for project updates here: Islington Street Corridor Project. Recovery Friendly Workplace -The Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative gives business owners the resources and support they need to foster a supportive environment that encourages the success of their employees in recovery by providing tools for support, helping employees know their rights, reducing barriers to get support, and to remove some of the stigma around talking about addiction and recovery. This is a free program for employers that has been shown to reduce turnover and contribute to improve outcomes for individuals in recovery. Reach out to Sam to sign up! The Residence at Islington Creek – Ed Hayes and Doug Pinciaro presented their proposal appending Play All Day Doggy Daycare and Great Rhythm Brewing on North Mill Pond/Islington Creek with 176 residential rental units. It has been modified from the original project to decrease the footprint and improve impacts on environmental conservation. Five percent of the project will be micro-apartments of ~500sf. Local business owners would love to see more affordable housing so the people who work and play in the West End can also afford to live here. The project will include development of one acre park along the pond and a greenway from the West End to Downtown. This project goes before the Board for variance on January 22nd.
