Meeting Minutes August 11

Join Us: West End BBQ September 17th
Tuesday, August 1th from 8-9 am, White Heron Tea

Present: Sara Curry (Bikram Yoga), Jonathan Blakeslee (White Heron), Jackie Stamp (Red Post Realty), Todd Hudson (Red Post Realty), Charlotte Hubbard (Sanford Institute for Savings), Ann Bailey (WSCA), Jesse Ware (Futuro Construction), Gen Aichele (NH Theatre Project), Chad Callihan (Weekender House)

Website: The crew from Red Post ran into a few server snags this month that delayed our website creation. Jackie Stamp is looking for content, photos and logos to bring the site together. What do you do on the West Side? Send Jackieyour best #WE photos.

Logo: Logo designs were discussed. The group agreed on a large WE decal with the words Portsmouth West End and Live, Work, Play to frame the simple design.

Neighborhood Branding: The group is still in strong support of a banner project to brand the West End. Most likely the project will need to be funded by local businesses. We will research the costs of the project before bringing the idea to the City.

Social Media: Many thanks to Devon Boyd, our Social Media Guru. She has been raising awareness of events and businesses on the West End and garnering lots of likes. If you would like to use the West End Facebook page to share information, events and articles about your business, please send them to Devon.

The group decided to work to brand our social media presence with the #WE hashtag. This stands for both West End and “we” as in the people who live, work and play here. To tag your social media posts in the West End, use the hashtag #WEliveworkplay. We will change the hashtag at times, for example, #WEshop in the holiday season and #WEbbq for our up-coming after-hours event.

#WEbbq: If you haven’t already, mark your calendars for the West End Neighborhood #WEbbq on Thursday, September 17th from 6-8 pm. Great food, great people and the latest on the Islington Street Improvement Plan.

This event will invite both business owners and residents alike to dine, taste, enjoy music and hear a presentation on our side of town by City of Portsmouth representatives.

We need your help to make this event great! Do you have something you can offer? Check out our planning spreadsheet here.

Please join us for our next two planning meetings:

Tuesday, August 25th at 8 am at White Heron Tea
Tuesday, September 11th at 8 am at White Heron Tea

We have a unique opportunity to bend the ear of the City of Portsmouth. Join us to help craft our united message about our needs on the West End at the next planning meeting.
